Yoga

Yoga is an ancient Indian philosophy systematized around 2,000 years ago. It is a practice that incorporates the understanding of the self on many levels: the intellect, the physical body, and the energetic body. In yoga, you work on joining these three levels of being.

The practice combines physical exercise (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation (dharana), all which promote radiant health and calm a restless mind. This discipline cultivates self-awareness, flexibility, strength and helps one feel grounded.

Regular yoga practice can alleviate common ailments such as backache, or joint pain; helps quiet the nervous system and relieves anxiety; and increases muscle tone.

LUMINOUSbody instructors are knowledgeable in many styles of yoga including Iyengar, Hatha, and Vinyasa. We will help you develop your own practice to inspire self-knowledge, non-judgement, and a clear mind.

Pilates

Pilates is an exercise system that helps you build strength in the core postural muscles. Coordinating the breath with movement, you tone the abdominals, strengthen the back and even out muscles in the legs and arms.

This strengthening helps correct posture, can rehabilitate injuries and help relieve chronic pain. Exercises can be performed on a mat, or with equipment, such as the reformer or cadillac.

These specialized apparatus were created by the German born Joseph H. Pilates. He and his wife, Clara, came to America in the 1920’s and began teaching this method, which was originally called ‘Contrology”. The work was very popular among dancers of the time and still is today.

Now, Pilates has grown to become a household name. With LUMINOUSbody, you can tailor your workout towards your needs and modify any exercise. We will focus on mat work and developing strength and length in the muscles.

Therapeutics/ Strengthening

Therapeutics/Strengthening by LUMINOUSbody focuses on core support, long muscle tone, and balance.

We will address any weakness with exercises using your own body weight as resistance, props such as physioballs and therabands, and cardio machines for better heart health.

We use influences from the Pilates method for core strengthening and yoga-based stretching.

Our approach to strengthening is to better overall health, build self-awareness and self-confidence. If your goal is to lose weight, we can offer encouraging motivation, or dietary guidance.

With this comprehensive approach, you will feel more grounded, flexible, leaner, and stronger.

What You Need

Yoga
sticky mat, yoga strap, yoga blocks

Pilates
thick yoga mat or exercise mat, theraband

Therapeutics/Strengthening
in-building gym, or an in-home cardio machine (treadmill, elliptical,etc.), exercise mat, theraband, small weights

*If you do not have the above props, they will be provided by LUMINOUSbody.

For all sessions you can wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes. Shorts or short pants, and bare feet are recommended for yoga. Please do not eat a heavy meal for at least two hours before a yoga lesson. If you must eat, you may have something light, like fruit or nuts. Lessons are private or semi-private, which can be shared by your spouse, a relative, or a friend.
